Programs & Initiatives

Workforce Development Curriculum
The Partnership is pleased to have the Harnett County District Attorney’s office making presentations to all middle school and high school students on the present and future consequences of activities such as cyber-bullying, harassment, inappropriate texting, and the importance of keeping a clean record. Other professionals supplement classroom learning by making presentations on topics including lifestyle choices, social media, interview skills and attire, diversity, career trends, financial literacy and budgeting.

Job Shadow Experience
Students participate in an individualized first- hand experience in a real job setting. Job Shadow experiences provide awareness of the education, training, and skills needed for a specific career occupation.

Community Based Learning
This popular initiative provides the opportunity for teachers to take classroom groups to observe a real-world work environment as it relates to course of study in the classroom.

Career Awareness Fairs
Career awareness events, held each spring for all four county high schools, provide the opportunity for high school sophomores to learn about career opportunities here in Harnett County as well as within the region.

Career Exploration Days
All Harnett County eighth graders visit the campuses of Central Carolina Community College and Campbell University to explore career ideas and opportunities in preparation for making their high school course track selection.

Senior Scholarships
The HCBEP has established a $500 scholarship opportunity open to seniors who meet established criteria. A scholarship is presented each year to one senior in each of the county’s four high schools.

Harnett County New Teacher Orientation
Each year teachers new to Harnett County are treated to a special lunch and presentation on the programs and efforts of the Partnership.

Mentoring
Mentoring is a program designed to give extra support to at-risk students. Identified students partner with a professional mentor to gain experience in a work setting and support from an adult regarding course work and life experiences.
